Apple was founded on April 1, 1976, meaning the company is officially 50 years old as of today. To honor the occasion, we have reflected on some of Apple's biggest moments of each decade, from the 1970s through to the 2020s. Apple has an extensive history, so this list is far from comprehensive, but it captures some of the pivotal events over the company's first 50 years.

RAM Prices Have Started To Drop, But the Crisis Is Far From Over

Since November 2025, RAM prices have been getting out of hand, thanks to increased demand from AI hyperscalers. However, it looks like we've hit the peak, with RAM kits starting to come down in price – if only by just a little bit. The easing on memory prices seems to be a response to TurboQuant, a new algorithm from Google that the company claims lowers the memory cost by as much as six times. On top of that, OpenAI's problems with raising funding have also contributed to the lowering memory costs, according to a report from The Telegraph. But even if prices will eventually fall back to a normal level, we're not quite there yet. I've been using this 32GB kit of G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 6000 memory as a sort of bellweather for the RAM market over the last few months. Right now, the memory is sitting at $419 for 32GB, which is significantly more expensive than it was at the end of last year. However, according to Camelcamelcamel, that particular kit of RAM peaked at $449 at the end of February. While a $30 drop in price is hardly the relief that PC gamers are hoping for, it is movement in the right direction. I've been told by analysts like Moor Insights and Strategy's Anshel Sag that the RAM crisis would last into or through 2027, and the recent plateau in memory costs doesn't exactly disprove that. But it does show that RAM is starting to inch back down in price, even if it wasn't in time to stop the PS5 and PS5 Pro from getting yet another price increase. Only time will tell how quickly the prices start to fall, or even if they're going to start going up again. Who knows? Maybe Valve will soon feel confident enough in memory prices to finally launch the Steam Machine. Either way, it's likely that we're going to see more price increases in the next few months until the RAM crisis finally subsides.Jackie Thomas is the Hardware and Buying Guides Editor at IGN and the PC components queen. Argos' Spring Sale Has a Solid Discount on the PS5 Pro Before the Price Hikes Next Week

Argos is running some of the strongest gaming discounts of the year so far as part of its 'Big Red Event' sale. One standout deal is on the PlayStation 5 Pro. It has dropped to £639.99, which is £60 off its £699.99 RRP. Yet, the PS5 Pro is also getting a price hike on April 2, which suddenly makes this deal even better. The price of the console is officially rising to £789.99, so you're effectively now saving £150 if you pick it up ASAP.Another way I like to look at the PS5 Pro is through the PC comparison. Building a machine capable of delivering similar performance today would likely push well past £1,500, especially with component costs rising and memory prices climbing sharply. Against that backdrop, the £639.99 price tag starts to look far more reasonable for what is currently the most powerful console on the market. With popular new titles like Crimson Desert and Resident Evil Requiem showing just how well new releases can run on the upgraded hardware, the Pro is increasingly starting to feel like a worthwhile step up from the base system.I know what you’re thinking, though, what about the PlayStation 6? That must be coming soon – why waste my money now? Well, young padawan, here’s the rub. With memory prices still high and this console generation only really hitting its stride six years in, a successor likely is not around the corner. I don’t see the PS6 arriving within the next two or three years, and most experts agree with me, which means buying into the PS5 Pro now is a fairly safe bet if the goal is to enjoy the platform for a while.Even when the next generation does arrive, history suggests the transition will be gradual. The long tail of the PlayStation 4 player base shows how reluctant publishers are to abandon a massive install base overnight. Expect something similar again, with many games launching across both the PlayStation 5 and its eventual successor for several years. A three-to-five-year cross-generational window after the new console launches would not be surprising.Plus, with Grand Theft Auto 6 set to finally land this November, it is also a timely moment to pick up hardware capable of running the generation's absolute biggest release, at its absolute best. It is still not exactly cheap, per se, but the performance-to-price balance Sony has squeezed out with the Pro is becoming rather difficult to ignore.Robert Anderson is IGN's Senior Commerce Editor and resident deals expert on games, collectibles, trading card games, and more.
